South Carolina’s defensive line just got thinner, and it’s not known yet for how long.

Sophomore DL Shameik Blackshear is not practicing in practice this week after suffering a concussion, according to Josh Kendall of The State. Defensive line coach Lance Thompson told reporters after Thursday’s practice that he doesn’t know when Blackshear will return to action.

“I’m not sure (when he’ll be back). That’ll be a decision for the medical staff,” Thompson said. “Injuries are part of the game. You just have to go with the next guy. When we get him back, we will get him in there.”

A former 4-star recruit in the class of 2015 rated the No. 10 weak-side defensive and No. 2 recruit in the Palmetto State, Blackshear has dealt with multiple setbacks due to injuries. He played in nine games last season and recorded two tackles.
