South Carolina has its new defensive line coach. Travian Robertson is coming home to Columbia to join Shane Beamer’s staff.

Robertson comes from Tulane where he was defensive line coach for a Tulane team that went 12-2 in 2022, winning the AAC conference championship game and the Cotton Bowl. The Green Wave was strong on defense, allowing only 22.2 points and 360.4 yards per game, including just 3.9 yards per rush.

Robertson played defensive line at South Carolina from 2007-to-2011. He was a team captain on Steve Spurrier’s squad in his final season.

The Atlanta Falcons selected Robertson in the 7th round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Robertson spent 4 seasons in the NFL, with Atlanta, Seattle and Washington.

After his playing days, Robertson got into coaching. He got his start with former Gamecock assistant and interim head coach Shawn Elliott at Georgia State.

Robertson was a GSU graduate assistant in 2017. He left Georgia State to be an assistant coach at Albany State in 2018 before returning to GSU in 2019. Robertson was Georgia State’s defensive line coach for 3 seasons before taking the Tulane job.

Robertson replaces Jimmy Lindsey, who took the defensive line coaching position at LSU.
