No SEC team may have had a worse night than South Carolina. The Gamecocks held a blackout game for the first home game of the season and appeared poised to jump into the Top 25 rankings by achieving a win over a Kentucky team that had struggled in two early-season wins over overmatched opponents.

Not only did South Carolina lose by a 23-13 margin, the Gamecocks suffered the worst injury possible outside of losing quarterback Jake Bentley.

Following the game, head coach Will Muschamp announced junior receiver Deebo Samuel had been lost for the season due to a broken leg. While his injury did occur, according to the receiver, he won’t be lost for the season.

Soon after the news of his injury was released, Samuel gave the following update, indicating he would return at some point this season:

We’ll have to wait and see which diagnosis is more accurate, but hopefully, Samuel will be making a return to the gridiron before the season comes to an end.
