The Kansas City Royals may not be having the best season, but that’s not Whit Merrifield’s fault.

The former South Carolina star is hitting .299 with 11 home runs, 42 RBI and 11 stolen bases to lead his team. Those numbers earned him his first All-Star berth.

As you can see below, Merrifield was informed of his All-Star selection by manager Ned Yost after Sunday’s game:

Merrifield has been a standout for the Royals for the past three years now after a brief stint with the team back in 2016. If he keeps playing the way he has the last two seasons, this won’t be his last All-Star selection.

Merrifield played for the Gamecocks from 2008 to 2010 before he was a ninth-round pick of the Royals in the 2010 MLB Draft.
