WATCH: Will Muschamp furious at the officials during halftime interview
The South Carolina Gamecocks have pulled out all the stops during the first half against Alabama, and the Crimson Tide still have the 24-10. lead.
South Carolina’s offense is having success, but its defense is having a tough time stopping Tua Tagovailoa, Najee Harris and company. That’s why USC is being so aggressive.
Gamecocks freshman quarterback Ryan Hilinski has completed 18-of-28 for 175 yards and one touchdown, and he looks pretty sharp.
Just before halftime, Gamecocks running back Rico Dowdle looked like he scored a touchdown, but the officials called him down near the goal line and there was no review. Will Muschamp was fired up about that, too.
Here’s what Will Muschamp said at halftime Saturday when asked about the non-touchdown just before halftime.
“I’m not gonna comment on that. If I comment on that I’ll get fined for the rest of my life!”

That’s tough. He scored.
Would expect as much from a Georgia fan. The ball belongs on the 2 foot line. We were lucky it wasn’t reviewed.
Muschump is embarrassing our whole State in front of 400 recruits and family.
Why were you lucky it was not reviewed?
As a fellow Gamecock fan, that dude is a few cards short of a full deck.
Esec is a Vols fan
It belonged on the 2 foot line.
Esec seriously where can we meet up so I can punch you in the Face
He should be heated. I am. I’m a UGA fan, idc what happens in this game but it’s just sickening to watch this in every decent SEC game Bama plays in. Holding the fake FG was 50/50. I’ve seen that nocalled many times. Najee’s 2nd TD there was a block on the SC DB before the ball even got to Najee. That’s PI and a 4th&17 in my book. SC’s 66 yard punt that was called back? Yeah Bama had such an obvious hold. Should’ve been 1st & 10 for SC. Don’t even mention the last TD being unreviewed. This is just embarrassing for the SEC.
Like Georgia isn’t the recipient of numerous questionable calls…..really? Not saying the refs were right (wrong on the TD, right on the hold), but don’t pretend the refs don’t hold the whistle when Georgia plays.
Bad calls happen, I get that. But Alabama consistently gets them in their favor in every close-ish SEC game they play.
I agree to disagree – there have been calls against Bama I don’t agree with and think were wrong.
Retirednuke bama only gets those kind of calls called against them when the games are already put away
Bama had
7 penalties in the first half….
Those seven penalties were all false starts hard not to call that not get questioned for it they can’t be too obvious even though they already are as far as bias goes
You’re one big excuse…
Holding on the fake FG was as obvious a call as you’ll ever see. He didn’t just grab, he maintained the hold on the edge which is the most obvious place to do it. Muschamp should have called timeout at end of half but rules guy came on and explained there wasn’t evidence to overturn.
Yeah that was about as “obvious” as the hold on the punt return that wasn’t called after the illegal shift.
Because I guess it’s holding now when he’s clearly keeping in front of the shoulder pads
Yes. When you grab and pull the jersey in front of the ref and a few million people watching on TV, it will get called.
He never grabbed the back of the Jersey he stayed in front of him the whole time
Oh, so now it’s back of the jersey? Lol, just change the rules to suit your narrative.
That’s what makes it holding otherwise it’s considered blocking. Which is what that really was blocking he kept himself his hands and his body in front of the defender the entire time therefore it cannot be considered holding
You just don’t know the rule. Look it up. Holding is the act of grabbing and restraining a a player not in possession of the ball. If you don’t see Lee being grabbed and restrained as he tries to run to the kicker then you’re just refusing to see reality.
So now blocking is illegal but only when done against Alabama
Nope, just grabbing and restraining a player. I know it’s shocking, but you just can’t do it.
I agree with your analysis on the Harris play. Jeudy was blocking with the ball in the air. They almost always call the hold on the perimeter when it springs the runner. Rewatch the 66 yard punt and you clearly see the man cross the formation and sprint up field without setting. That’s an easy call. Notice how you didn’t mention how Bama lost a TD on the wrong call without a review.
Because bama only had the ball in their hand because of the missed calls
BS. You are going to have to dig deeper in your bucket of excuses this year. The losses for SC are just getting started.
Wrong better than every team in the East not named Georgia
And honestly wouldn’t be surprised if we manage to beat Georgia
Right, because SC beat UGA in 2012, remember?
Last time was actually 2014 Dawg fan. But that’s irrelevant the point is the score really should have looked more like 37-47 . we are a good football team and if we play with the kind of passion we did against Bama against the dawgs yes we do have a chance
It looked really close. I doubt it would get reversed unless there was some view the officials had that what I saw on tv didnt. Still it was absolutely close enough to take a second look. SC playing pretty good. Hilinski missed some big throws but he is playing pretty darn good for a frosh facing bama in his second start. Jaycee Horn, man he is good, I am still sick he chose SC. Bama has a ton of weapons, duh newsflash. That first fake was a great call. The second one eh not so much. Credit to muschamp for showing a lot of guts and having his team ready.
His knee was down and they gave a better spot near the goal line than they should have…and it was clearly holding all the way on the fake field goal…move on
His knee was down at like the 2 but they spotted it half a yard from the goal line.
I still think the FG hold was a toss-up. You can’t really argue over it if it gets called but it’s not uncommon for the officials to let it happen since it’s not a total takedown and the kicker had broken to the outside anyway.
I don’t understand people claiming that was an iffy call. It was holding. You don’t have to take down a player to commit a hold. He grabbed and maintained the hold on the edge on the one player that could have made the tackle. You can’t do that, not debatable.
No matter how many times you post the same take, it doesn’t make it “not debatable.”
Yeah, my crazy take is that holding should be called holding. But I guess the normal take is that the refs just wanted to help Bama, right?
He stayed in front of my shoulder pads the entire time his right hand went behind his back but never grabbed that’s not holding
It doesn’t matter if you’re in front, you can’t grab and hold when the defender tries to disengage and get away. That’s why holding is often called on the edge because defenders are trying to get to the sideline and blockers don’t let go.
It’s iffy because Bama’s defensive backs illegally hold on every pass play and always have. There is holding on every run play that does not get called that is much worse. It was an awful call. Several blatant holding calls by Bama in and around that same time that were not called. Bama is better. I get it. That call was horrible. No excuse for how bad the officiating was early in this game. Once again, Bama is better. Does not change the fact that the officiating in this game was awful and should be questioned. I’m sure it won’t be by anyone that can do anything about it.
That’s just your biased opinion. You know how often we Bama fans have to hear this? After every game. What’s more likely: the refs want to help Bama for some unknown reason or that you are under a misapprehension? Figure it out. Btw, someone ran a story on this a couple years ago to disprove the myth that Bama gets calls and the data actually shows that Bama is more often flagged than the average team. Google it and quit with the wacko conspiracy theories.
The reason really isn’t unknown…..
Oh please tell us what you know. I can’t wait. I’m sure you have evidence as well, right?
No. Does not look like his knee was down. No way to know for sure. For the officials to watch that live and call him down was ridiculous. They seemed to want him to be down. Just another bad call in a game with a bunch of bad calls that seem to all go Bama’s way. Bama was better team, better talent, etc…. Why the officiating had to suck so obviously in their favor is hard to understand.
How can you watch that replay and think it’s obvious that the officials should have assumed he was up? If his knee didn’t hit the ground then it only cleared by a hair. To act like that’s a terrible call is just a bad fan reaction.
the fact that it wasn’t reviewed is what makes it a bad call if Harris would have been the one running that ball in for Alabama it gets reviewed every single time.
And probably initially gets call the touchdown to begin with just because it’s Alabama
Muschamp rushed to snap the ball instead of calling a timeout. Why aren’t you upset with him? Your idea basically boils down to the loser mentality that the officials for some reason want to help Bama. The evidence doesn’t support that. It’s just a tin foil hat conspiracy theory.
Rush to snap the ball 30 seconds ran off and he had to hurry up and set their snap it because there was 19 seconds left everyone in the stadium was expecting a review including the announcers
They should have reviewed, but I really don’t think it would have been overturned. Just not conclusive. The fumble didn’t help right after.
Just tell Muschamp to shut up. Half-assed play calling and execution ain’t the fault of the officials. He’s such a douchebag…
I wanted to say the same thing but knew I would get blow back. I can’t stand that guy. Like your QB. Doesn’t play like a freshman at all.
Half assed play calling did you even watch the same game? Muschamp didn’t play not to lose he played to win the gambles didn’t work out but he went all in for All Gas No Brakes. This game makes me feel better going forward with the season, there will be an upset coming this year.
All this newly found SC hype. It will be gone after they lose to Mizzou next week.
Your day is coming candyass.
All those calls should have gone our way and if our name was Bama it would have…..
All Muschamp had to do was call timeout and then it gets reviewed.
The holding call was BS. He shouldn’t have had to they were sure quick to review for Alabama it was sure quick to throw flags against us they gave them fourteen points and took 14 points away from us
The holding call was obvious. They didn’t review the play where Bama scored but was called out. He wasn’t. So the only points taken away were from Bama. I’ll give you the 14 anyway and you lose by how much? The better team won.
Momentum is everything in the football game if we’d have gotten those two touchdowns we win that game. To say the least we would have at least had a Fighting Chance
Man, you are ridiculous and bitter. The story of this game can be reduced to one observation: Tua ran the offense up and down the field all day without interruption.
According to Muschamp in his interview the play was not reviewable.
Why argue with this knucklehead? It has to be the refs cheated for Bama. This way, SC really won the game and they still “own” Bama.
The play where they took a td away from Bama didn’t go their way. It wasn’t reviewed either. It’s funny that everybody is agreeing that it wasn’t a td. Their problem was that it wasn’t reviewed. Everybody but some SC fans and Bama haters think the holding shouldn’t have been called. Y’all played hard but you were not the best team on the field and the officials didn’t cost you the game.
See clearly stepped out of bounds
Wonder how mad he would have gotten had she asked, “Why can’t your team tackle?”
Probably as mad as Kirby would be if he was asked “Why does Georgia always lose when it counts?”
Your comment literally has nothing to do with the discussion but again, UGA losing big games to other teams is about all ya got. Hey, remember when I told you to enjoy your four touchdown loss? I’ll admit I was wrong. The late, trash-time TD kept it under four TDs. Congrats. Next SC loss: Missouri.
@gouga, all you do is attempt to troll sc articles. You are essentially ESEC, not a fan, just a troll, you bring nothing to the table and then get your panties in a wad when you get called out. Also please stick around that magical moment when GA pulls a GA, but like ESEC you will go back into your troll hole for the season.
Was it not legit to ask Muschamp why his team struggles to tackle? Anyone with panties in a wad is you. Anytime I bring up anything UGA related, you respond about their losses to Bama. I’ll be here all year, my friend. You’d better pray SC beats the Dawgs.
You aren’t a GA fan you do nothing but post up on SC sites and look like a dumba$$ and we both know you will disappear like GA’s playoff hopes, GA going to GA, lol
PS the question about GA choking is fact.
Can I assume you’re not going to address the legitimacy of asking Muschamp about the poor tackling?
I will as soon as you admit the legitimacy of asking Smart why he chokes in the big game, all we hear is how he he is recruiting 5 stars, and right on track with Bama, but not the same results, Smart always manages to lose the big one.
In all your stupid responses, this is king.
You can call it stupid and deny if you want but it is still a fact, GA is going to GA and gougadawgs headspace will be owned by SC football, that’s all you comment on.
No. It’s stupid. Smart has coached in four “big games.” The 2017 SEC Championship, which he won, the Rose Bowl the same year, which he won, the NC game that year, which he lost and the 2018 SEC Championship, which he lost. Even with your limited math skills you can see that he has won two of those. You can repeat all you want the Smart chokes in big games but it isn’t true. Again, I see why you say it. Your team has historically been and is currently crap. You can’t talk W’s and L’s, you can’t talk championships or even “big games” for SC.
0 national championships under Smart and all you GA fans do is pretend to be in the same conversation as teams like Bama. All those 5 stars and no nattys. Also you seem to have left a couple of big games that GA choked in last year alone, cough cough Texas. Ga going to Ga
The Rose Bowl? That wasn’t a big game. That was a QUALIFIER for a big game. Just the fact that you threw that in there tells folks all they need to know. If it’s not a championship, it doesn’t matter.
But I’m sure Kirby could call and ask UCF for the number to the people that made their rings and organized the parade…
