Bishop Sycamore, the school that was drubbed by IMG Academy in a showcase high school football game over the weekend, continues to make headlines.

The bizarre story about how ESPN was duped into airing the game is one of the weirdest stories of the year.

Well, the story continues to get weirder. Per a report from Chris Bumbaca of USA TODAY, head football coach Roy Johnson was fired after Sunday’s 58-0 loss to IMG.

Bishop Sycamore founder Andre Peterson, a former college football player, continues to insist the program is not a scam:

“There’s nothing that I’ve gotten out of this that would constitute it as a scam because I’m not gaining anything financially from what we’re doing,” Peterson told USA TODAY Sports on Monday night. “The reality of it is that I have a son (Javan) that’s also in the program and has been in the program for four years.

“If it’s a scam and the kids are not going to school and not doing what they’re supposed to do, then I’m literally scamming myself. And most importantly, I’m hurting my own son. So when people say stuff like that … I would literally be taking my son’s future and throwing it in the trash.”

This story doesn’t seem like it’ll be going away any time soon. We’ll just have to wait and see what the next strange twist is.
