Things are not looking good for the Big 12. Texas and Oklahoma are off the to the SEC, leaving the Big 12 with eight remaining members. Meanwhile, the other Power 5 conferences – ACC, Big Ten and Pac-12 – are reportedly forming an alliance on matters such as scheduling and expansion of the College Football Playoff. The leaves the Big 12’s eight members facing an uncertain future.

West Virginia AD Shane Lyons recently appeared on SiriusXM’s ESPNU Radio. Lyons expressed his disappointment in the situation. In the clip shared by the channel’s Twitter account, Lyons repeatedly mentions that things can change day-to-day or six months to one year from now.

Hoping for an unspecified “change” in the conference realignment landscape doesn’t express a whole lot of optimism. It will be interesting to see what happens to those remaining Big 12 programs. WVU would reportedly be interested in joining the ACC, but there’s no sign that said interest is mutual.
