A nationally-televised high school football game on Friday between Las Vegas’s Bishop Gorman and Phoenix-area power Hamilton produced one of the wildest comebacks of the season.

Hamilton, which trailed Bishop Gorman 24-7 on ESPNU as part of the weekly Geico High School Football Showcase, cut the Gaels’ lead to 24-10 with a 46-yard field goal with 1 minute, 10 seconds remaining. That would set up an obvious onside kick situation, which the Huskies recovered successfully to eventually put themselves into the end zone with just 29 seconds left.

Then, following the extra point to make it 24-17, the Huskies would need 1 more onside kick, which they recovered once more. Quarterback Nico Almarcio then connected with Nick Switzer for a 22-yard touchdown pass a few plays later to put Hamilton within 24-23 with 8 seconds remaining.

Looking for a go-ahead 2-point conversion, Almarcio, who is committed to West Virginia, ran the attempt in himself to give the Huskies a 25-24 lead.

The Gaels were then left with 1 final possession but failed to take advantage of it as Hamilton would hold on for the stirring come-from-behind victory.
