Kirk Herbstreit shares reaction to Florida State's Week 0 loss to Georgia Tech
Kirk Herbstreit was quick to react to Florida State’s shocking 24-21 loss to Georgia Tech on Saturday afternoon.
The ESPN analyst was in Dublin with the College GameDay crew, although he was not on the call for this contest. Still, he offered some encouragement for the 0-1 Noles with this message on social media:
Man, tough loss for the Noles over in Ireland to a good GT team.
The great news is with the new 12 team playoff, there’s still plenty of opportunities to climb back into the bracket. Regroup and keep battlin!

With the College Football Playoff expanding to 12 teams, it’s certainly plausible that Florida State could get back into the mix. The Noles still have several opportunities to earn marquee wins for their résumé, including against Notre Dame, Florida, Miami and Clemson. A 10-2 record would likely be enough for FSU to at least be in the conversation to reach the College Football Playoff.
Still, Herbstreit may not be the messenger Florida State fans want to hear from after a crushing defeat. FSU fans were highly-critical of Herbstreit for how he characterized the Noles at the end of last season — both before and after Florida State QB Jordan Travis went down with a season-ending injury. That animosity continued on Saturday with Herbstreit being the subject of boos and GameDay signs from the FSU faithful.
Herbstreit and the rest of the College GameDay crew will now head back to the States to prepare for Week 1. They will be on location in College Station for Notre Dame-Texas A&M next week.
Florida State will host Boston College on Monday, Sept. 2 as it looks for its first win of the season.
