For most folks, college doesn’t take nearly a decade. But Oregon TE Cam McCormick is not most folks.

McCormick, who has battled several significant injuries before finally having a healthy 2022 season, has been granted a ninth year of college eligibility by the NCAA, according to OregonLive.com.

McCormick was a member of Oregon’s 2016 class and redshirted that year. In 2017, he was 1 of 3 Oregon players hospitalized with rhabdomyolysis after hard workouts prior to the season. He suffered a season-ending ankle injury in the first game of the 2018 season. That injury kept him out all of 2019 and 2020, too, due to subsequent surgeries.

In 2021, he played in 2 games before going down with another injury. Finally, in 2022, he stayed healthy, putting up 9 catches for 64 yards and 3 touchdowns entering the Ducks’ appearance in the Holiday Bowl:

The 2023 season would be his eighth collegiate year, and he’ll be eligible to come back in 2024, as well. He said he’s undecided on his future at this point (via OregonLive.com):

“I’ve thought about it; it’s a tough decision,” McCormick said after Friday’s practice. “I’m not totally keen on what my decision is going to be yet. I’m going to continue to enjoy this game with my teammates and make the decision after the game. … I couldn’t imagine doing nine. If anything, I applied for it just to have it after Ohio State last year. I tore my Achilles and thankfully was able to get it. The option’s there, I do have it. Whether I use it, it’s in the air. Thinking about returning for a year eight.”

We’ll see what the future holds for the veteran Oregon tight end.
