Pat Narduzzi met with reporters on Monday afternoon for his weekly press conference and spoke about numerous issues concerning Pittsburgh.
However, he also spoke about where the ACC sits within the conference hierarchy in 2024. In Narduzzi’s opinion, the ACC is the best conference in the country this season.
“The ACC, from top to bottom, is the best conference out there,” Narduzzi said. “I really believe that. And I think every weekend, anybody can beat anybody.
“I think the ACC is top to bottom, really good. And yeah, it hurts when you’re beating each other up. No question about it.”
It has been a relatively good year for the ACC so far this season. SMU, Miami and Clemson have emerged as the top teams in the league, as that trio have suffered just 4 combined losses (2 in ACC play) entering Week 12. Pitt was also in the mix with that trio until it dropped back-to-back games to SMU and Virginia over the past 2 weeks.
However, it’s worth noting that the data doesn’t necessarily back up Narduzzi’s claim. ESPN’s SP+, to use one example, includes just 1 ACC team in the top 10 compared to 5 from the SEC and 3 from the Big Ten. The bottom of the league is also quite poor, as teams like Florida State and Stanford reside outside the top 90 in the latest SP+ rankings.
Pitt will host Clemson in a crucial ACC battle on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. ET.
