First-year Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian wanted no part of the conversation surrounding his assistant coach Jeff Banks, a monkey, and a trick-or-treating incident gone awry.

Asked Thursday about a report that a monkey belonging to Banks’ girlfriend bit a child’s ear on Halloween, Sarkisian deflected. The former Alabama assistant called the matter personal and therefore not something he’d discuss publicly, per the Austin American-Statesman’s Brian Davis.

Here’s a quick recap for anyone who might be a bit behind. A Houston-based photographer named Tom Campbell tweeted on Monday that a monkey belonging to the girlfriend of Banks had to “be pried off” a trick-or-treater on Halloween night. Dani Thomas, the monkey’s owner, then posted a video to her Twitter account refuting the claim her monkey had attacked anyone. That video was then deleted along with her Twitter account.

Halloween tends to lend itself to bizarre stories. And they don’t say “everything is bigger in Texas” for nothing.

Banks is in his first year at Texas after coming over with Sarkisian from Alabama, where he’d coached since 2018. No doubt he’s looking forward to Saturday, when the Longhorns face Iowa State on the road. Kickoff for that game is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on FS1.
