Tom Herman is getting trashed on social media following Texas' loss
No. 17 Texas played out its final regular season home game on Friday, blowing a late lead to fall to No. 13 Iowa State, 23-20.
After surrendering a late touchdown to fall behind by three, the Longhorns needed to drive down the field to get into field goal range and force overtime. Quarterback Sam Ehlinger orchestrated a drive that got into Iowa State territory, but took a late sack that made it a 57-yard field goal try, which was missed by kicker Eric Dicker in the final play of the game.
It’s been a common theme for the Texas Longhorns in recent years, to end the season in a disappointing manner after claiming to be “back”. It appears to be no different in 2020, as that loss dropped Texas to 5-3 on the season. Here is some of the reaction on social media to another disappointing blow to Tom Herman’s Texas tenure.

And yes, Tom Herman's long-term status in Austin is now incredibly uncertain.

Tom Herman is clearly doing a very bad job and is a disappointment, but also he was the perfect candidate for Texas at the time he was hired. I have no idea who'd be better.

The one thing Texas couldn’t do is take a sack

The Texas Longhorns should never lose to Iowa State in football.

That’s a microcosm of Tom Herman’s entire coaching tenure in Austin

Fire Tom Herman immediately. How do you not kick a field goal to up 7 with 8 minutes left. Inexcusable

Iowa State comes back to beat Texas, putting the Cyclones one step from the Big 12 title game.
'Horns fall to 5-3. Not good at all for one Tom Herman.

Tom Herman failed Sam Ehlinger the way Jadon Garrett failed Tony Romo.

Peace out Tom Herman

Can't believe Sam Ehlinger took that sack. But the loss is on Tom Herman. That might be it at Texas.

Translation:
The most Tom Herman game ever. We controlled the game and still found a way to lose. https://t.co/9R1yRvcQ8C

If this isn’t the final nail in Tom Herman’s coffin at Texas, I don’t know what is. Just amazing.

I enjoyed that game. Say it with me… Texas is back!
So the people in the back can hear…..Texas is back!
TEXAS IS BACK (TO SEARCHING FOR A NEW COACH)
I don’t think Texas is going to fire him this season. He is on thin ice though.
I’d really like to see this guy fired….and he’s definitely made a case to be fired beyond the w/l record, but i think you’re right, he’s not getting fired this year.
As a fan of a team that was in a conference that the University of Texas destroyed with their arrogance and greed, and their overwhelming need to run the Big 12 as Texas and the Other 11, it’s always a good day when the Longhorns fall flat on their overinflated egos. The University of Texas football, continually first in line for the Underachievement Hall of Fame. No program consistently does less with more.
Hey Deloss Dodds, (and following little big shots) are you going to try and tell us again your bad games are better than Iowa State’s good games?….. What’s your genius strategy for hiding Lowborn games from Texas’s U.’s own network. How do college educated people in the State political capitol come up with that hiring criteria. Maybe if you just let Herman use the same arm signals as the opposing quarterback?, yeah that might make you look ??? 3 years old again. Who would have thought you could make Mack Brown look so great, with your next two hires. Give the Big Eight back to Iowa State, Nebraska, Kansas State, Kansas, Colorado, and the two Oklahoma programs. Don’t go away mad, just go away. What’s that sound?, oh it’s the Southwest Conference calling.
Off topic. The Iowa State coach a lot of heartwarming class. He stood and talked to the kicker for several minutes while patting him on the arm. He treated that young man with respect.
