Texas A&M has reached the point in the schedule where the Aggies may be compared against other teams around the country in terms of the College Football Playoff.

If they are, in fact, in the conversation with the likes of BYU and Cincinnati for the fourth spot, for example, would style points, or convincing wins come into play. Coach Jimbo Fisher addressed the topic at his Monday press conference.

“SEC wins are very convincing, I can promise you that,” he said. “Any time you win the SEC West, it’s very convincing. Best league in ball, best players in ball. Convincing wins, that’s an opinion. You got to base things on facts.”

Fisher then added that the media landscape has changed in a way that opinion has replaced facts.

“In our world in the media right now has got to be my opinion,” he said. “Not what’s based on facts or how I feel. You got to let the people on the committees (decide) and those things, you can’t worry about that. You gotta play what you do, control what you can control, convincing’s in the eye of the beholder. Where does running somebody out of the stadium and embarrassing somebody, where does that ever become good? What dignity is in that? Not saying you don’t do that, I’m just using that as an example.”

Fisher summarized his argument by saying that several factors enter into a convincing win.

“How about just play your best football, do it the right way, do it with class, do it with dignity, those are convincing wins against good opponents,” he said.
