Jimbo Fisher has reportedly found his prime candidate to replace Mike Elko as defensive coordinator after his recent move to be Duke’s new head coach.

Bruce Feldman of The Athletic and FOX Sports reported that Fisher has zeroed in on Ole Miss defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin to become the Aggies new defensive coordinator.

Durkin just finished his second season at Ole Miss after he previously coached at Michigan and Florida, and was a consultant for the Atlanta Falcons.

Durkin was the head coach at Maryland for the 2016 and 2017 seasons. He doubled the Terrapins’ win total during his first season at the helm and excelled on the recruiting trail, bringing in consecutive top-30 signing classes for the first time in program history during his 2 seasons in College Park, according to his Ole Miss bio.
