It appears Florida State is beginning to make preparations in case head coach Jimbo Fisher does decide to leave.

Fisher has been with the Seminoles since 2007 and has served as head coach since 2010 but he has recently been linked to the open head coaching position at Texas A&M. One report even indicated that some people in Tallahassee believe Fisher will take the job with the Aggies.

Nothing official has been announced at this point, but another report from Wednesday indicated that FSU is beginning to vet candidates should Fisher leave.

Dan Wolken with USA TODAY shared the story:

A person with knowledge of the matter told USA TODAY Sports that Florida State administrators have started preliminary background checks into candidates, including Oregon coach Willie Taggart. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.

Fisher has had an extremely successful career with the Seminoles. He holds an 83-23 overall record and won a national championship with the team in 2013. He currently ranks second on the school’s all-time wins list behind legendary coach Bobby Bowden.

With the team currently sitting at 5-6, this season will mark the first time that Fisher has not reached nine wins with the Seminoles. It will be interesting to see if he decides to make a change and takes over for the Aggies.
