Texas A&M and Ole Miss were set to meet on Saturday, but the game has been postponed as COVID-19 issues were discovered in the Rebels football program.

That’s not good news for the Aggies, especially with them at No. 5 in the College Football Playoff rankings. Not only will they be the only team in the conference besides Ole Miss that will finish with 9 regular-season games, but they will be forced to end their season against Tennessee. If A&M struggles with the Vols—who have lost 6 in a row by double digits—it’s likely it will be punished by the Playoff committee. Even a blowout will do Jimbo Fisher’s team little good in the eyes of the committee with it projected to be a heavy favorite in Knoxville on Dec. 19.

It’s certainly a rough spot to be in for everyone involved with the Aggies program, and the reaction of the postponement was swift on social media. Many wondered if A&M would stay alive in the CFP race with only 1 game left:

We’ll see what happens with A&M, but the SEC will have to sign off on any additional games the Aggies may want to play. Things could get interesting over the next few days.
