Texas A&M has reportedly interviewed a candidate to replace Jimbo Fisher less than a week after the head coach was fired.

Texas A&M athletic director Ross Bjork interviewed Jeff Traylor, UTSA’s head coach, the Austin Statesman’s Kirk Bohls reported Thursday. The interview reportedly took place on Tuesday via a 90-minute Zoom call.

Traylor has coached UTSA since 2020, leading the Roadrunners to a 30-13 record during his time. Last season, Traylor led the team to an 11-3 record with an AAC Championship. This year, the Roadrunners are 7-3 and are set to play in the AAC championship again.

While Traylor has not been with Texas A&M’s program before, the 55-year old has Texas roots, getting his coaching start as a high school coach for several teams around the state. He has served as a special teams coach for Texas and an assistant head coach at SMU and Arkansas.

Duke head coach Mike Elko is also believed to be a strong candidate for the Texas A&M coaching job. Elko was the Aggies defensie coordinator from 2018 to 2021.
