Texas A&M fans upset with comments made by ESPN broadcast crew during LSU game
Texas A&M took down LSU 20-7 on Saturday night. After being ranked No. 5 in the first College Football Playoff rankings, it was not exactly a win that will get the Aggies any style points.
But, it was a win, and we’ll see where A&M stands when the new rankings come out on Tuesday night.
However, some fans think ESPN doesn’t want the Aggies in the Playoff. Comments made by analyst Dan Orlovsky and the broadcast crew drew the ire of Texas A&M supporters.
Here is some of the reaction to the broadcast crew:
This ESPN crew does not want Texas A&M in the playoff at all. This entire broadcast that’s all they’ve talked about.

The last time time I checked, holding your rival to 13 points in a wet game is “Convinicing”. Nothing about that game mattered to A&M’s playoff chances, they should still be 5th come Tuesday!

Will the Aggies be able to keep their momentum going next weekend? A trip to face No. 22 Auburn looms large.
Win that game and the Playoff is a legitimate goal. Lose, and the Playoff dream will fade away.
Kellen Mond and the rest of the team did not perform like a playoff team Saturday.
I’m not sure where all the supposed negativity is coming from – certainly not from the majority of Aggies. Facing an all-SEC schedule and holding strong at 6-1 so far with 3 winnable games left is a much better position than we’ve had in recent years and about the best most of us would have reasonably expected in year 3 of Jimbo’s tenure.
With an underwhelming offensive performance like last night, it’s reasonable to question whether Aggies deserve to be #5, but with an overwhelming defensive performance like last night, I feel confident that once the offense gets back on track, the Aggies can play with anyone.
Calm down and enjoy the games. 20-7 isn’t 50-7 or 74-72, but it’s a good SEC win.
Gig ‘Em!
Agree the defense is looking really good. hopefully the trend continues. Offense I get the rust and the weather but was hoping for a little more consistency as the game went on.
@gig’em dude I agree. In all honesty we have fans from both our fan bases taking this for granted. It’s okay to want more from the team but looking at last year and what our teams are fielding this year is amazing! Instead of just enjoying the incredible product they are putting on the field, we are upset about the little things we aren’t or don’t have. Next year can always be a step down. It’s been a good ride this year for both our programs. We are blessed to have football at all. It’s been a fun year of football
Tony, you are wrong. That Aggie defense was lights out. Seth Small was flawless in the kicking game. So two of the three phases of the game was clicking on all cylinders. Further, the Aggie running backs, especially Spiller, was gashing LSU all night. Unfortunately, the offensive passing attack had issues all night because bad Mond decided to make his appearance, not good Mond.
One of the three phases of the game was clicking and that was the D. Special teams had some MAJOR penalties.
Seth Small did a great job, though!
Spiller gashed LSU all night? He had one big run and averaged 3.3 yards per carry other than that. Everyone is praising the Aggie defense that gave up the same yardage as LSU defense. A&M has a SR qb and 4 seniors on the O line. LSU is playing freshmen qb in a COVID year with limited practice. The difference in the game was one spiller run and a pick six.
Good grief you’re an idiot.
Truth hurt much, 94?
The truth feels good, that’s why I’m never afraid to always speak it.
Deciding what’s true and what’s false can always be shortened to one word…opinion. That’s the truth.
I hope that most Aggie fans can see that was not a playoff team performance. Mond looked lost again and I can understand some drops due to the rain. Next week if they play like this I see a loss in JHS. Now the announcers were kinda annoying with every chance they got to talk about CFP. We get it we played just well enough to win.
Add into the list of factors the fact that LSU is a very talented team and knows A&M very very well. Despite all the talent it has, LSU’s issue this year has been that it has a number of gaping holes in that roster.
One of them is big O without little Joe.
Have to put the game in context. Cold wet rainy conditions and the rust caused by a 3 week layoff clearly had a major impact on A&M’s passing game.
Florida didn’t have that issue when played Missouri after 3 week layoff! No excuses!
If you use cold as an excuse then the Big 10 is going to look a lot better. It wasn’t very cold by most of the country’s standards.
I can kinda see where they’re coming from. Just looking at style points, compared to Auburn. Now I’ll say up front…we suck. You guys are a very good team. That being said, you lost by almost the same margin to Bama as we did. You didn’t come close to beating LSU as bad as we did. Now yes, you did look better against the rest of our common opponents. I just say win out in a manner that you guys have the ability to do. I.e. beat us like a drum, and beat Tennessee like a drum. Y’all are good enough to do it. And it’ll be hard for anyone to say you don’t deserve a playoff spot at that point.
Yeah it depends on which Mond shows up xD.
That might be why others are not high on Texas A&M because of inconsistency and that Vandy game really hurt Texas A&M. Missouri blew them out big time 41-0. That is what wrong with Texas A&M. Not nearly good enough to impress anyone.
Florida will have a say in it.
Something else that hurt A&M against LSU was rust. They’d gone 3 weeks since their last game. Add to the equation the rainy and wet conditions, and A&M just couldn’t get its passing attack going.
Alabama fan here, but OK let’s say A&M falls to No. 6 and Florida moves up to No. 5. So what? All A&M has to do is win out. Alabama will beat Florida in the SEC title game, so that eliminates Florida. Ohio State is on the verge of eliminating itself thanks to Covid, and Clemson will lose to Notre Dame again. So, Bama, Notre Dame, A&M and Cincinnati will go to the playoffs. LOL, OK maybe not Cincinnati but I think the Aggies, although they didn’t set the world on fire Saturday night only need to win out and wait.
People keep putting Clemson above ND like it’s a penciled-in win for the Tigers. I’m not usually a ND fan and I understand that they’re continually overrated year after year, but they’re fun to watch this year and I can see them beating Clemson outright. It’s not a lock by any means, but it should be a close game.
The win over a Florida was a win but it was not convincing.
I think A&M should be considered a legitimate playoff contender. If they finish 9-1 against an all-SEC schedule, including a win over a top 5 team, they should be in.
There is no play-off or tooth fairy. To get into a top bowl game you should be undefeated. Real opinions from experts could be solicited by perhaps asking coaches to rank not their own college divisions and maybe on the opposite side of the continent from their program. If a program is not undefeated they lost to the program most people think is #1 by a close score. Few sports writers have the education or experience or knowledge of the game to do anything but just say why they enjoyed the game or not, absolutely forget pretending to rank college football programs that have not played each other or had a lot of common opponents.
Man I hear you but it narrows the focus of college football to say only the undefeated should get in the CFP. I hope someday its expanded to eight teams with each P5 conference champion and 3 wild cards with one spot for a G5 if one is ranked high enough. I just think college football would be much more interesting if being a conference champion meant something again.
Several things – certainly the A&M offense was not up to par, but contributing to that was some awful officiating, particularly letting LSU get away with blatant pass interference and holding by defensive backs on many plays, receivers dropping balls in the wet, and Mond throwing too low in several cases. The A&M defense was lights out all night. It appeared that the rust from not playing two weeks was a factor, but the playing conditions were not helpful. Look out Auburn!
Auburn might win that game!
Pretty simple realy…..Florida wins out they are in. Florida loses and Aggies win out they are in.
And there you go. Its just that simple.
SDS has been more anti A&M than espn
Because all those writers are Florida grads.
Beware of FORMER well published paper sport’s magazines. One of them is now publishing half-truths (and those are the same as lies), trying to PROFIT from our society’s honest work to be a color-blind land of opportunity.
^^^ Wow! Ok then… ^^^
Everything is so screwed up this year I hoped they would go to 8 teams
