As Texas A&M’s spring practices draw to a close, one player’s attention will now turn towards an off-field legal issue.

Kirk Merritt, a sophomore receiver with the Aggies, has pleaded not guilty to a pair of charges of indecent exposure that originated last fall, according to a report by Brent Zwernerman of the Houston Chronicle.

In each of the two charges brought against Merritt, the alleged victims claimed the receiver exposed himself to them while sitting “within arms reach,” per Zwernerman. Both victims appear to be tutors at A&M’s Bright Football Complex.

According to Zwernerman, Merritt’s attorney, Rick Davis, is claiming “jock itch” as his client’s reason for exposing himself.

“While Kirk is very embarrassed about this situation, and has apologized to the two tutors that he offended, he did not intend to gratify anyone by exposing himself. The fact is that Kirk had a bad case of jock itch,” Davis said in part of a statement made to the Houston Chronicle.

Merritt has requested a delay of arraignment, which was scheduled to be held earlier this week, based on an objection to the hearing’s setting. A new hearing date has not yet been announced.

The sophomore receiver sat out the 2016 season after transferring to Texas A&M from Oregon. As a freshman with the Ducks, Merritt saw limited playing time and caught just five passes in 11 games. A former 4-star recruit, Merritt has been practicing with the Aggies this spring.

Texas A&M’s annual Marron and White Game will take place at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday, April 8.
