Texas A&M fired Jimbo Fisher amid another disappointing season in College Station. Now that the Aggies have finished off their 7-5 campaign under interim coach Elijah Robinson, it seems they have a new head coach in mind.

Per a report that surfaced on Saturday night, it appears the Aggies are going to target an active SEC head coach to replace Fisher.

Per Mark Passwaters at Rivals, barring something changing at the last minute, Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops will make his way to Texas A&M to lead the Aggies in 2024 and beyond:

Stoops has openly complained about a lack of NIL money at Kentucky. Texas A&M certainly has no shortage of that.

Is this a hire that will make Aggie fans happy, though? That remains to be seen. There are still some hurdles before Stoops is officially hired, it seems, so we’ll see how the next 24 hours plays out.

Stoops has been the head coach at Kentucky since 2013 and has gone 73-64 overall (35-55 in SEC play) during that time. His Wildcats have beaten rival Louisville 5 years in a row and have won 10 games in a season twice during his tenure.

Is he the guy to lead the Aggies to an appearance in the SEC Championship Game and perhaps a spot in the College Football Playoff, which expands starting in 2024?
