Texas A&M’s Pro Day produces much slower 40-yard dash times than expected

Texas A&M held its Pro Day on Tuesday, with several players hoping to improve their stock ahead of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Instead, especially when it came to the 40-yard dash times, it seems many of them might have done exactly the opposite.
Jane Slater of the NFL Network tweeted out some reported 40 times from scouts in attendance, and the results (particularly for DL DeMarvin Leal, TE Jalen Wydermyer and RB Isaiah Spiller) left a lot to be desired:
40 times at Texas A&M’s Pro Day per the scouts:
DeMarvin Leal – 5.04
Leon O'Neal – 4.70
Isaiah Spiller – 4.63
Kenyon Green – 5.25
Jalen Wydermyer – 5.03— Jane Slater (@SlaterNFL) March 22, 2022
Naturally, slow times like the ones mentioned above drew plenty of criticism and confusion on Twitter. Here were some of the reactions from fans and media members:
Uphill both ways in the snow, barefooted.

Are they indoors, Jane? Those times for Spiller and Wydermyer are….not good.

Are they running with cinder blocks on their feet? https://t.co/5t9P5Wgvb3

Each one a step slower than expected. Did they run 43 yards? https://t.co/cas9QkG3Fo

It’s almost as if the lack of speed has been the glaring hole for this team… https://t.co/vwPhrkM3nT

4.63 for Spiller? Were they running in mud? https://t.co/1FfjtBfJxD

Some of the times improved in the second attempts for players, and there is a degree of variance as many of these reports are from scouts who are hand-timing the runs. But, still, when every hundredth of a second counts, these were disappointing times out of College Station.
