Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin’s job security is being questioned more than ever these days, with 2017 season looming large for the Aggie coach’s future.

After an 8-5 campaign in 2016 — going 6-0 before finishing 2-5 — many in College Station would like the university to make a change.

AD Scott Woodward has heard those complaints and, during an appearance on The Paul Finebaum Show on Tuesday, issued an ultimatum of sorts to Sumlin, saying it’s time for the Aggies to take the next step toward competing for titles:

Sumlin is no stranger to 8-5 seasons, having amassed that exact record the last three seasons.

Woodward made it very clear the Aggies have to do “better than we’ve done in the past,” so now the pressure is on Sumlin to take the team in the right direction this fall.

After losing star DE Myles Garrett, who was the No. 1 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, QB Trevor Knight and WR Josh Reynolds, winning as many as nine games this fall will be difficult for Texas A&M.

Fans are getting restless, and another subpar effort in 2017 may lead to a new coach pacing the sidelines when the 2018 season begins.
