After Jeremy Pruitt was hired to take over as the head coach at Tennessee, there was immediate speculation as to who he would bring with him from Alabama’s current staff.

Included in that discussion was former Florida State standout and Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Chris Weinke, who has spent this season as an offensive analyst for the Crimson Tide. In fact, the addition of Weinke was considered a done-deal as recently as last week.

That may no longer be the case, however, according to Tennessee Rivals’ site Volquest:

It’s hardly a surprise that Weinke would consider joining the staff of his alma mater. He did have a good run as the quarterback from 1997 to 2000 after all — passing for 9,839 yards and 79 touchdowns in four seasons.

If Florida State is able to steal Weinke away from the Vols, it wouldn’t be the end of the world, but it would sting — as he’s considered an intriguing up-and-coming coach with connections ranging from the high school ranks, he served as head coach of IMG for a number of years, to the NFL.
