Cooper Mays was a key blocker for QB Hendon Hooker and the Tennessee offensive line in 2021, paving the way for a huge season both through the air and on the ground.

Hooker figures to set the tone for the Vols once again this fall, with Mays leading the way for the offensive line.

Recently, Mays shared a story that highlights exactly why the Vols are willing to go to war for Hooker. Appearing on “Off The Hook” with Dave Hooker, Mays told a story about Hendon getting a few teeth knocked out of his mouth during last year’s Alabama game:

“We went down to Alabama and it kinda speaks to the character of Hendon. He’s a guy who’s tough and cares so much about the team,” Mays said. “There was a play where it was a pretty blatant, he threw the ball and then it was kind of a later hit and it was more to the head area. It knocked like 4 of his teeth out. This was probably like the second quarter of the game or something. He continued on and played like he wasn’t even fazed at all. That was a cool story and kind of a testament of who he is.”

Hopefully, Hooker can keep all his teeth this fall. But, his toughness is definitely an asset as the Vols look to improve on last year’s 7-6 overall record.
