A former Tennessee defender is reportedly looking for a new opportunity. Austin Nivison of 247Sports reports that ex-Vol defensive lineman Emmit Gooden has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal.

Gooden last played during the 2018 season. He signed in UT’s 2018 class as a JUCO transfer from Independence Community College (Kansas) of “Last Chance U” fame. Gooden was a 4-star prospect, ranked No. 7 at his position. During UT’s 2018 season, Gooden recorded 33 tackles, including 7.5 tackles for loss and a sack.

Gooden missed the 2019 campaign due to a torn ACL in the preseason. In July of 2020, Jeremy Pruitt dismissed Gooden from the program following an arrest on a domestic assault charge. The 247Sports report says Gooden pleaded guilty and received a judicial diversion.

Gooden was originally part of the 2016 recruiting class coming out of Haywood in Tennessee.
