With it looking to be only a matter of when, not if, Tennessee decides to fire coach Butch Jones, the #Grumors are in full force.
Many Volunteer fans would love to see former Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden take the job in Knoxville, even if he hasn’t coached in 10 years.
Former Tennessee RB Charlie Garner III knows a thing or two about Gruden, having played for him in Oakland in 2001 and in Tampa Bay in 2004.
On Monday, Garner said he thinks his former coach would consider the opening, but added that he’d have to be willing to give up a lot of freedom:
I know Jon G can do the Job! He loves Tennessee. I just think he likes his freedom. College work week is to short.

Absolutely. Then what about his endorsements and show on ESPN! What would you do?

Gruden seems to be enjoying his time as a Monday Night Football broadcaster, and while he could replace his endorsement deals with new ones, he would have to give up his ESPN gig.
Whether he would be willing to do that remains to be seen, but if Jones does get fired, he’ll be receiving plenty of calls from Tennessee.
