Georgia’s top-ranked recruiting class in the SEC has suffered a hit with the decommitment of Virginia defensive end Jaevon Becton.

The change of heart came after the new Tennessee staff offered Becton, and the news drew a crystal ball from recruiting analyst Kipp Adams of 247 Sports. Becton’s Georgia commitment came through a relationship with assistant Shane Beamer, who has deep ties in Virginia from earlier in his career, and his father, Frank, coaching Virginia Tech.

When he committed to Georgia, Becton, an edge rusher listed at 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds, was rated the nation’s No. 40 weak-side defensive end and the state of Virginia’s No. 16 overall player, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. He’s currently ranked No. 21 in Virginia and No. 62 overall at his position in the country.

The 3-star prospect currently holds 15 offers.
