Big news from Rocky Top as former starting Texas linebacker Juwan Mitchell has announced his commitment to Josh Heupel’s Tennessee program.

Mitchell made the decision to leave Texas back in late March.

Mitchell led Texas in tackles last season with 62. He also had 4.5 tackles for loss, one quarterback hurry, one pass breakup, and one fumble recovery for the Longhorns defense. Mitchell also started five games for Texas during his first season with the program back in 2019.

On Monday, Mitchell announced his decision to continue his playing career at Tennessee.

Following offseason defections, linebacker was arguably the weakest position group at Tennessee, which makes getting a quality player with starting experience at the Power Five level such a big addition for Heupel’s program:

Mitchell will have two seasons of eligibility remaining at Tennessee after starting his college career at Butler Community College. During his time at Butler, Mitchell was named all-conference selection.
