Tennessee receiver Bru McCoy is believed to be returning for the 2024 season according to a report from 247 Sports. McCoy had the option to turn pro following his fourth year of college football, but after suffering a season-ending ankle fracture against South Carolina in the fifth game of the year, it appears that he is looking for more.

A former 5-star recruit out of California, McCoy originally enrolled to play for USC, then joined Texas for the spring of 2019 before heading back west to be with the Trojans from 2020-2021. After a promising ’20 season in which McCoy racked up 21 catches for 236 yards and 2 touchdowns, he rarely saw the field in ’21. Thus, he moved on to join the Josh Heupel offense in Knoxville.

With Hendon Hooker slinging the rock in 2022, McCoy posted career-highs in catches (52), receiving yards (667) and touchdowns (4). He was expected to step into the WR1 role in 2023 following the departures of Jalen Hyatt and Cedric Tillman, and through five games, that was certainly the case. But, the fracture suffered against the Gamecocks derailed his dream season.

If McCoy does return, he will figure to be WR1 alongside returners Ramel Keyton and Squirrel White, giving Nico Iamaleava a strong supporting cast in his first season as the starting quarterback.
