One of the thinnest positions on the field for the Volunteers in 2019 was at linebacker, particularly at inside linebacker, where Tennessee was incredibly fortunate that Daniel Bituli and Henry To’o To’o were on the roster, because outside those two, there wasn’t much depth.

That’s an issue Jeremy Pruitt and company have tackled on Rocky Top as Memphis linebackers Bryson Eason, Martavius French and Tamarion McDonald are all set to sign with the Vols during the Early Signing Period.

In addition to those three in-state defenders, Tennessee reached into the Peach State to land another potential inside linebacker as Athens Academy standout Len’Neth Whitehead just announced his commitment to the Big Orange during a signing ceremony on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-1, 230-pound Whitehead ranks as a four-star prospect, the No. 10 inside linebacker in the nation and a top 200 overall prospect in the 2020 recruiting cycle by 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Before you pencil Whitehead in as a linebacker, though, he could also serve as a power running back in college. Either way, Tennessee is going to be thrilled to have an athlete of this caliber join its class on Wednesday.
