Nico Iamaleava isn’t going to change how Iowa prepares on defense, according to defensive coordinator Phil Parker.

Parker spoke at a Citrus Bowl press conference ahead of Saturday’s kickoff. Having a different man under center didn’t seem to concern Parker, as he believes the Tennessee offense will operate the same way. The Iowa defensive coordinator noted that Iowa will have to keep up with Vols receivers and stifle the running game.

“I don’t think the offense is gonna change. It’s been very similar to what he’s done in the past. We have about 54 snaps on him. They’re running the same offense, but he’s a little different in style, probably runs a little bit better,” said Parker. “I’m sure they’ve got some other things up they’re sleeve in things they want to do. It’s gonna be a challenge for us and we’re gonna have to be able to match their talent outside with the receivers they have and the ability to stop the run.”

Iamaleava is set to make his 1st career start now that Joe Milton has opted out of the Citrus Bowl. Iamaleava was a former 5-star quarterback in the 2022 class. The 247Sports Composite ranked him as the No. 2 QB and No. 1 California prospect.

Kickoff from Orlando will be at 1 p.m. ET on ABC.
