Tennessee took care of Southern Miss in a game that began late Monday night after a weather delay caused the finish to be later than scheduled, and the Vols are headed back to Omaha.

The final spot in the College World Series was up for grabs, and the Vols got 6 innings and 7 strikeouts from Drew Beam, then Zane Denton hit a 3-run home run in the 5th as Tennessee beat Southern Miss 5-0 on Monday night to clinch the final spot in the College World Series.

Chase Burns pitched the final 2 2/3 innings to record his second save of the season. The right hander did not allow a single hit and walked just one batter.

Overall, Griffin Merritt, Denton and Maui Ahuna combined for 3 hits, 3 runs and 5 RBIs.

With the victory, Tennessee won its 4th Super Regional in program history, including its 3rd on the road.

The Vols are the 3rd SEC team to reach Omaha, and Tennessee (43-20) is in the CWS for the second time under coach Tony Vitello. The Vols will face LSU on Saturday.

Tennessee is the only SEC program and one of just 4 in the country to appear in at least 2 of the last 3 College World Series, joining Stanford (2021, 2022, 2023), Texas (2021 and 2022) and Virginia (2021 and 2023).
