Report: Greg Schiano emerging as the favorite for Tennessee coaching job
Who will be the next head coach at Tennessee? No one knows for sure, but the school appears to be nearing a decision.
Will it be Jon Gruden, Dan Mullen, Mike Leach, Greg Schiano, or someone else? That remains to be seen, but the rumors are flying in Knoxville.
According to USA TODAY reporter Dan Wolken, Schiano — who is currently Ohio State’s defensive coordinator — has emerged in the past few hours as the leading candidate for the Vols:
Sources: As the last 24 hours have evolved, Greg Schiano has emerged as the focus of Tennessee’s search. Vols have also been engaged with Mullen, who has been trying to wait out Florida.

Would hiring Schiano be enough to inspire confidence in a Tennessee fan base that has grown increasingly frustrated with AD John Currie? That remains to be seen, but Currie might have a hard time selling fans on the former Rutgers coach.
That’s not to say Schiano couldn’t do a good job in Knoxville. It’s just that the Vols expect a big-name hire and Schiano might not quite fit that bill.
