FootballScoop reported on Saturday that Tennessee may be getting ready to bring LSU general manager Austin Thomas onto its staff to hold a similar role.

“The Scoop” cited sources that apparently said there is “chatter” about Thomas being a candidate to join Volunteers head coach Jeremy Pruitt’s staff.

“We understand Thomas is head down, working as usual at LSU at this time,” FootballScoop said. “Unclear at this time whether an offer has been extended or not; but we do note that Jeremy Pruitt and Thomas share the same agent.”

Thomas, who is from Franklin, Tenn., reportedly turned down multiple opportunities last off-season with NFL teams (according to FootballScoop’s sources) to remain at LSU with Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron.

Thomas has been on LSU’s staff since April of 2013, according to the LSU football website.

“The first General Manager in the history of the Southeastern Conference and one of two in the nation, Thomas leads the way in the oversight and management of the entire LSU Football program,” his bio on the site states.

Thomas holds a master’s degree in sports management from the University of Tennessee. He served as a recruiting intern at Tennessee in 2008 and was also a defensive assistant under Monte Kiffin (and UT head coach Lane Kiffin) in 2009.
