The Tennessee Volunteers have lost another key staffer, and this is a very important one.

Per Rivals.com, strength and conditioning coach A.J. Artis is leaving Rocky Top to take over USF’s strength program.

However, the Vols might not have to go far for his replacement. Per the report, new Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel had already hired another strength coach from his UCF staff:

Artis was retaining by Heupel when he was hired in January, but Heupel also brought Central Florida head strength coach Kurt Schmidt with him to oversee the strength program. Heupel hired Schmidt to be his head strength guy at UCF after the two worked together at Missouri.

Thus, Artis’s time on Rocky Top might have been drawing close to an end regardless of if the USF position was open or not.

Now, we’ll see how Heupel’s strength program fares with Schmidt in charge.
