It appears the assistant coaching carousel at Tennessee hasn’t stopped after all.

According to Brent Hubbs of Volquest, the Tennessee Rivals’ affiliate, UT running back coach Robert Gillespie will not coach for the Volunteers in 2018 after all. Gillespie was the lone holdover kept by Jeremy Pruitt from Butch Jones’ final Tennessee staff. When the school officially announced Pruitt’s 2018 coaching staff last week, Gillespie was on the roster of coaches.

Gillespie had been on Tennessee’s staff for five years and was promoted to recruiting coordinator and assistant head coach in 2015. While many position groups failed to live up to their recruiting hype under Jones, the team’s running backs always seemed to shine under Gillespie.

It is unclear at this time why the move is being made or if Pruitt has another candidate lined up to take the position.
