With two straight victories, the stock of the Tennessee football program is certainly trending upwards. And this week, a new stat came out that reveals another reason to be optimistic about Tennessee quarterback Jarrett Guarantano.

According to College Football Film Room, dropped passes have hurt Guarantano the most of any SEC quarterback this season. Incredibly, more than 25 percent of Guarantano’s incompletions have been the result of a drop from a receiver.

Only two other SEC quarterbacks have a drop percentage on incompletions higher than 20 percent.

Even on a 5-5 team, Guarantano’s numbers actually aren’t bad. He’s completed 65.1 percent of his passes for 1,768 yards, 11 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. The sophomore is averaging 8.2 yards per attempt.

Now imagine if Guarantano was getting the same help from his receivers as Tua Tagovailoa or Jake Fromm have this year. There’s no telling how much better the Tennessee passing game would be.

Of course, Tennessee isn’t recruiting wide receivers as successfully as the elite SEC programs, but still, this stat clearly indicates that with better receiver play, Guarantano should be able to post even better numbers next season.
