Tennessee continues to add depth to the secondary with Jalen McMurray from Temple as the latest transfer commitment.

The transfer portal has not been kind to the Volunteers at secondary. Wesley Walker, Tamarion McDonald, Doneiko Slaughter, Brandon Turnage, and Warren Burrell are some of the names who have exited via the portal. On top of that, Kamal Hadden is heading to the NFL Draft after suffering a season-ending injury against Alabama.

McMurray brings plenty of experience with him to Knoxville, playing in 24 games for Temple since 2021. He accounted for 90 total tackles, 2.5  tackles for loss, and 1 interception over the last 3 seasons.

The Volunteers allowed 221.5 passing yards per game this season, which ranked 8th in the SEC. Things declined on that front once Hadden’s season was over.

Fortunately, there’s help coming in the secondary for the Vols. Tennessee has 4-star signees Kaleb Beasley and Boo Carter as well as 3-star signees Edrees Farooq and Marcus Goree Jr. in its 2024 class.

It wasn’t the same kind of season as 2022 for the Volunteers. Tennessee finished the year with 9 wins after beating Iowa in the Citrus Bowl.
