Tennessee football: Updated news on the Vols ahead of today's kickoff
Anticipation is building for Tennessee football’s 2018 debut under new Vols head coach Jeremy Pruitt. We’re hours away from kickoff against the West Virginia Mountaineers in Charlotte, North Carolina.
All week, West Virginia has been favored over Tennessee by anywhere from 9.5 to 10.5 points. Currently, as of Saturday morning, the line has settled in the 9.5 point range. Perhaps the line came back down after ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit made Tennessee his upset pick of the week.

The ESPN college football analyst is calling an upset — Tennessee over No. 17 West Virginia.

If Jeremy Pruitt were 100 percent honest, he’d likely rather not play No. 17 West Virginia on Saturday. A cupcake at home would be much more palatable than playing a ranked team with a Heisman Trophy candidate at quarterback.
The Vol I’m rooting for the most this season
There are plenty of Tennessee players to root for this season. One stands out the most.
Todd Kelly Jr. has endured much more heartache than he ever imagined when he signed with the Vols. The former standout from Webb School in Knoxville expected to help turn around the Vols when he signed with UT in 2014. Kelly Jr. and his signing class expected to contend for championships at UT. They never expected to be a part of a team that would go winless in the SEC last season, finish 4-8 and be considered one of the worst teams in UT’s storied history. That was never part of the plan.
Kickoff is hours away. It’s a big one for the new Jeremy Pruitt era. If the Vols can pull off the upset, those friends of yours that are Tennessee fans are going to get quite rowdy.
