Tennessee loses offensive lineman with starting experience to transfer portal
Tennessee offensive tackle Gerald Mincey has entered the transfer portal. On3’s Pete Nakos was the first to report the transfer decision.
At the time of publication, Mincey had not shared any personal message about his reported portal entry, but he did share several posts about it on his personal Twitter page, all but confirming his decision to leave Knoxville after two seasons. In early December, Mincey revealed that he planned to return to Tennessee for what would have been his third season with the program, but it appears things have changed since the bowl win over Iowa on Jan. 1.
Mincey appeared in all 13 games for the Vols this season while starting seven times.
From Sept. 30 through Nov. 11, Mincey started six straight games at right tackle, but those appearances weren’t without their warts. After the 36-7 loss to Missouri, Mincey stepped into a reserve role and played only a handful of snaps late against Georgia. He returned to the starting lineup against the Hawkeyes at left tackle.
Among UT linemen to see at least 50 snaps as a blocker this season, Mincey had the sixth-best grade from Pro Football Focus (61.0). His 17 quarterback pressures allowed were the most of anyone on the team.
In 2022, his first year with the Vols, Mincey appeared in nine games with seven starts.
The Fort Lauderdale native began his career at Florida, where he spent two seasons.
