WATCH: The play everyone's talking about that sent Tennessee-Purdue game into OT
The Purdue Boilermakers ended the Tennessee Volunteers’ season 99-94 Thursday night.
Once down by 18 points, Tennessee came roaring back in the second half to eventually lead the Boilermakers by two points with just a little over two seconds remaining.
Purdue had an in-bounds play, and Lamonte Turner was called for a foul against Purdue’s Carsen Edwards that has the sports world buzzing.
Here’s the play everyone’s talking about:
Tennessee fouled Carsen Edwards on the 3-point attempt. He made two. This ending has been bonkers. pic.twitter.com/uDRkOPi2GC

Here’s another angle:
Thanks to the new PI review rules, this “foul” call with 1.7 seconds left would be overturned in the NFL pic.twitter.com/NU6Jz8Gb2W

Edwards went on to hit two of his three free throws to send the game into overtime. Purdue pulled away 99-94 in the extra period.
Was it a foul? Did he step out of bounds before the shot? No doubt, this play will be talked about for a long time.
Vol fans found a pic of the ref, who called the foul, on social media wearing a Purdue t-shirt.
Barnes calling NCAA office tomorrow…..stay tuned!
You’re right, Wade would have just paid him off…
Just as Bruce Pearl did for your program. Touche’
Enjoy the sweet sixteen. Might be a few years before you see another.
Almost as incredible as LSU running backs raping women while they sleep, Touche’.
Eh, LSU benefited from myriad questionable calls throughout the season, and then a SEC ref involved in one of the worst instances was found wearing a LSU shirt and cheering them on on twitter. That’s very sketchy and a giant problem. Not sure why that would be minimized.
But they literally didn’t do anything wrong per one of the fattest and dumbest states in the nation
You talking about the inbred, hillbilly state of Tennessee?
State obesity ranking: La 6 Tn 15 (state of obesity.org)
State Ed ranking: La 47 Tn 37 (wikipedia)
You were saying?
What has 32 teeth and an I.Q. of 127? Knoxville on game day.
Inbred hillbillies!!
The state education stats are showing your projection and self-loathing?
With Louisiana being a “fat & dumb state” are you telling me that your mom is from Louisiana? Small world!! What part of the state is she from?
Really proving my point about lack of intelligence with these “comebacks”
And what was the benefit to the SEC for allowing Missouri into the conference? Oh yeah it was all about the almighty dollar….. capturing the St. Louis & Kansas City TV markets. It sure in hell wasn’t based on their athletic merit!
Louisiana and Tennessee making fun of each other’s states is kinda funny. Sorry, but it just is.
Missouri doesn’t have a lot to be proud of…Ozark hillbillies.
Missouri…the “I hear banjos state”.
Hey, that’s why I’m not joining in. Stones and glass houses and all that.
Understood!! Lol
Misery talking sh1t haha. Even your professional teams want to leave that sh1thole
LOL
Yea, THAT, right after the LSU running back that screws women while sleeping, LMAO.
That’s a foul
No excuse. Missed way to may from the line. It should never have come down to that call.
Exactly….poor free throw shooting ultimately cost the Vols the game. Good season though.
It doesn’t look like he stepped out of bounds, but it doesn’t look like a foul either. Tough way to go out. Hitting some more free throws would have been nice for the Vols.
His heels were clearly up and it was a very obvious foul. Painful ending for UT, but clearly the correct call.
Very obvious? That doesn’t seem very credible. It looks to me like the only contact is the defender brushing the shooters outstretched leg. Not a foul.
Yep. Literally about half of Turner’s lower body was in contact with Edwards. I don’t see how this is a controversial call.
It would appear you have an agenda. I have no dog in the hunt, and I don’t see how an unbiased person can make the comments you are. To each his own.
I don’t have an agenda. Please watch those clips again. There was definitely contact. Even Rick Barnes admitted that. I don’t know what to say beyond that.
I’m with Mizzou on this, his body clearly makes contact with the shooters chest.
LSUABC, let’s hope you have a better day today.
Watcha going to amaze us with today?
Maybe you really should attempt to change screen names and try to come back on with an attempt to gain credibility.
So, how’s the searches going for ‘truth’?
See ya later.
Ok Zo
Clearly the incorrect call. A shooter cannot draw contact with a leg kick-out. It’s been a rule in the NCAA since 2015. It used to be a common-place foul, and too many guys took advantage of it.
Troof! Reggie Miller.
The shooter had a good look, a good shot, and whatever contact there was did not influence the shot and did not undercut the shooter.
That was a terrible call that mirrored the one made against Jarnell Stokes against Michigan in 2014. They would not make that call against Duke. Or UNC.
But as much as I could complain about the referees for that call, Tennessee got to the free throw line PLENTY. Make a couple more of these in regulation and we’re moving on.
It would help if Barnes would work the referees. Even just a little.
The Fist Ballers did just about as much as they could with the players and lack of depth they had. Hate it for them, because this was a very special team.
Not OB. Heels up.
Neither angle is great for deciding on foul or no foul. Vol player could have brushed shooter’s forearm or not.
Vols were getting away with fouls all night… GTFO…. so glad the greatest team in Vol history made it to the sweet 16 lmao… so great watching that punk shoefield go out like that…. good riddance, back to worrying about your pathetic football program
anyone who thought Rick Barnes was going to a final 4 needs therapy….
What channel is UF on?
how many banners y’all got… can’t count women either… i’ll wait
go back to worrying about your pos football team… good luck with vandy this year
Still living vicariously through other teams? I guess that’s life as a low income non-alumni…
ROCKY FLOP TENNESEEEEEEEE WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
PEACE LOSERS
Should I post a link to the definition of “vicariously”? Big word for you, boy
I thought it was FU?
Chill, bro.
Anyone who listens to your rankings needs therapy. Now time to see my shrink.
Officiating has been horrible all season…again this call would have never been made against Duke or UNC. Heads up Auburn.
UTk clearly hit pursue players elbow AND ran into his body. Purdue player also didnt step out. Whiners gonna whine.
^^^^^^ no matter the sport, vols fans will always have an excuse for losing.
This foul—it was a foul—should never have happened in the first place as the ball went off the Purdue players foot just prior to the call.
All that said, you can’t shoot 14-28 from the charity stripe and expect to win an NCAA Tournament game.
But man, as a Vol fan I’ll really miss watching this team play. Admiral Schofield was truly special and we’ll miss Kyle Alexander too.
We’ll be back though. GO BIG ORANGE
Somehow that’s a foul, but Zion’s charge is not. And someone how the last play in the Auburn-FL game is not a foul either.
Basketball refs must be lawyers on the side. They cherry pick the rules. I thought the refs were supposed to swallow the whistle at the very end of the game. Basketball = WWE. The NCAA is taking notes from the NBA.
As far as kicking his leg out, that’s not happening here. You wanna see what that was put into place for go back and watch Nevada play.
I’m not a Tenn fan at all but I don’t think that should have been called. In the last minute refs need to swallow the whistle unless it’s something obviously egregious. Perdue got what’s known as “a Duke call.”
If you don’t think it was a foul, check the score book. I believe it will be recorded as a foul.
Can closed.
And which one of you had a better view or were closer that the official?
