USC transfer and current Tennessee receiver Bru McCoy still has not received an update on his eligibility for the upcoming season on Rocky Top.

Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel said in a Friday news conference that the university had done all it could to move McCoy’s eligibility forward.

And Saturday, USC provided a statement saying they have not objected to McCoy being declared immediately eligible, despite the stretching timetable.

“USC has – consistently with NCAA rules – promptly and accurately responded to all requests from the University of Tennessee related to the eligibility of Bru McCoy,” The school told Outkick’s Trey Wallace. “At no point since Bru entered the transfer portal in January have we objected to him being made immediately eligible to play at Tennessee. The issue of Bru’s eligibility ultimately rests with the NCAA, and we wish him the very best.”

McCoy could make an immediate impact for the Vols this upcoming season alongside WR1 Cedric Tillman and star quarterback Hendon Hooker. The Vols had one of the most electric offenses in the country last season and look to turn it up a notch in 2022 under Year 2 of Heupel and offensive coordinator Alex Golesh’s system.

And according to USC, the NCAA is now solely responsible for McCoy’s status come Sept. 1, when the Vols kick off their season against Ball State.
