The 2017 season will be an important one for several college coaches all across the country.

However, one of the hottest seats in the nation belongs to Tennessee coach Butch Jones, who is No. 9 on the list of coaches most likely to be fired this year, according to Las Vegas sportsbooks.

But, FOX Sports host Colin Cowherd thinks Jones should be much higher on the list. Though UCLA’s Jim Mora is a 9-1 “favorite” to be fired first this year, Cowherd said Jones should have something like 2-1 odds:

“First of all, if there is a hot seat, the guy at Tennessee — Butch Jones — should be the leader in the clubhouse at 2-1,” Cowherd said. “Forget 9-1 — 2-1. They play Georgia Tech and Florida in the first three weeks. He loses one he could be fired. Two? He’s done. He’ll be fired by Week 3.”

Tennessee fans and boosters will certainly be eager to see how Jones does in the first few weeks of the 2017 season, but the fact that the Vols currently have the top 2018 recruiting class in the SEC may be enough for him to save his job — for now.

Only time will tell what the future holds for Jones in Knoxville.
