The Tennessee Volunteers will have coach Butch Jones out on the sidelines for at least one more week when the Vols take on Southern Miss this weekend.

However, many believe this will be his last year at the helm of the program, and the ideal candidate to replace him in everyone’s mind is Jon Gruden — the current Monday Night Football analyst.

On Sunday, as he prepares to call Monday’s Denver Broncos-Kansas City Chiefs game, Gruden discussed the upcoming contest while also weighing in on whether he’d consider a return to the sidelines:

“I draw plays every day,” he said. “Who knows what life will bring? I haven’t lost a game in a few years, though, so I’ve got that going for me. You never know. We’ll see what happens.”

Obviously, those comments will stoke Tennessee fans’ interest, as he didn’t explicitly say he wouldn’t return to the coaching ranks.

Whether or not we ever see Gruden as a head coach again remains to be seen, but it’s safe to say the folks in Knoxville would love to have him.
