Tennessee basketball announced Wednesday afternoon that Zeigler tore his ACL in his left knee against Arkansas Tuesday night after landing awkwardly. He, by nature of a torn ACL, will miss the remainder of the season.

Zeigler has been through so much across the past few years alone. The Vols’ 5-foot-9 star point guard was undersized as a prospect and received very few offers to play basketball at the next level. He earned every bit of a chance at Tennessee and immediately contributed, quickly becoming one of the best point guards in the conference. He arrived late in August, just before the start of the 2021-22 season.

Halfway through his freshman season, his family home in New York burned down. Thankfully, everyone was safe and through the collective efforts of Tennessee’s fanbase, he was able to raise enough money to accommodate for his family.

Now, a tough collegiate journey has gotten that much tougher.

Where does Tennessee turn?

The Vols were able to cruise over Arkansas without Zeigler on the floor, winning comfortably 75-57. Tennessee bullied Arkansas in the paint, taking advantage of Eric Musselman’s preference to shut down the 3-point line.

A pair of veteran players on the roster have played point guard for Tennessee in the past: Santiago Vescovi and Josiah-Jordan James. Neither is as attuned to the position as Zeigler, but a combined effort could fill his spot on the floor for the next month.

Another option is freshman PG BJ Edwards, who has only recently begun to see the floor. Because of his lack of experience, don’t expect Rick Barnes to uptick his minutes drastically.

Tennessee closes its regular season Saturday against Auburn.
