Arch Manning debut: Steve Sarkisian evaluates QB's first appearance
Arch Manning gave Texas fans something they’d waited all season for on Friday in the 57-7 win over Texas Tech.
The freshman, who is the nephew of Peyton and Eli, got in the game in the second half. He completed 2-of-5 passes for 30 yards. Manning also had 3 carries for 7 yards, including a long run of 12 yards.
“Backups are always kind of the fan favorite, but when Arch went in the crowd was buzzing. We had to try to quiet the crowd,” Sarkisian said after the win. “Probably there are some butterflies and some anxiousness first time playing early on.”
The Texas coach then pivoted to a general comment about the backups in the game.
“But one thing I was impressed with was in that last 90-yard drive with with our 2s. What a drive for those guys. Super proud for them,” Sarkisian said. “Two good 3rd-down conversions in there, the conversion to Johntay (Cook), the conversion to Casey Cain. In the previous drive, he used his legs really well. Things for him to build upon moving forward but happy he was able to get in.”
