Quinn Ewers makes Big 12 Championship Game history with sensational 1st half
Quinn Ewers has been lighting up the Oklahoma State defense on Saturday, and the performance has put him in a category all of his own. Ewers is the first player to ever throw for four touchdowns in a single half of the Big 12 Championship Game, and he began the game with three in the first quarter alone.
Only Baker Mayfield (Oklahoma) and Ell Roberson (Kansas State) have thrown for four scores in the Big 12 title game, but it took them a full game to do so.
Ewers completed 23-of-31 passes for 354 yards in a the first half of a game that Texas certainly needed to make a statement in, and he is making a late claim to being at the Heisman Trophy ceremony with this performance. He’s also completed passes to nine different receivers in this game, including a 2-yard touchdown to 362-pound defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat late in the first quarter.
Rumors have gone around this week that Ewers is leaning toward returning to Texas for the 2024 season as well, but nothing has been confirmed.
The Longhorns notched a 35-14 lead at halftime against the Cowboys and would move to 12-1 on the season with a win. They would also be in contention for a playoff berth, dependent upon the rest of the day’s results.
