Texas AD refers to reports of NFL interest in Steve Sarkisian as ‘fodder’

Texas is gearing up for the biggest game of the season with a Cotton Bowl semifinal against Ohio State. However, if reports are accurate, head coach Steve Sarkisian could be generating some interest from the NFL.
The NFL’s hiring and firing cycle kicked off on Monday with the official conclusion of the regular season. And it was on Sunday when ESPN’s NFL insider, Adam Schefter, reported that Sarkisian is expected to receive some level of interest for NFL head coaching jobs.
Such interest would not be entirely surprising for Sarkisian. Prior to taking the Texas head coaching job, he was the offensive coordinator for Nick Saban at Alabama. Prior to that job, he had a 2-year run as the Atlanta Falcons OC under then-head coach Dan Quinn.
In spite of those reports, Texas AD Chris Del Conte is not putting much stock in the interest for his head coach. Kirk Bohls with the Houston Chronicle quoted Del Conte as scoffing at the reports.
“We’ve got a game to play,” said Del Conte per Bohls. “I’m not going to comment. Somebody’s just creating fodder before our biggest game. That’s stupid.”
Texas is certainly not interested in losing Sarkisian any time soon. After a 13-12 mark across his first 2 seasons with the Longhorns, Texas has gone 25-4 the past 2 seasons, complete with a pair of College Football Playoff appearances.
After wins over Clemson and Arizona State, Texas will face Ohio State with a trip to the national championship game on the line.
