Texas and Michigan are squaring off in Week 2 in a game that is being heavily dominated by the Longhorns. Frustrations continue to mount on the side of the Wolverines, and a late hit on one play led the two teams into a heated altercation that had to be broken up by officials.

With Texas in a goal-to-go situation, starting quarterback Quinn Ewers took a quick knee after one snap as the play broken down. It was a clear sign Ewers had given himself up on the play, but Kenneth Grant and another Michigan defender made late contact with Ewers on the ground.

The incident ignited the offensive line of the Longhorns and set off a scuffle between the two teams with Grant at the center. The officials threw multiple flags and had to intervene to break up the situation.

When the situation was resolved, offsetting unsportsmanlike penalties were assessed to both teams. The original late hit to Ewers did not receive a penalty.

FOX broadcaster Joel Klatt expressed surprise that the late hit did not receive a flag, and he even praised the offensive linemen of Texas for standing up for their star QB. According to Klatt, it represents the championship culture Steve Sarkisian has been building within the program.

Regardless of the incident, it did not set back the Longhorns. They scored another touchdown soon after to build a commanding 31-6 lead against the defending national champs in Ann Arbor.
